#FreeAudu: Nigeria Police Confirms the Arrest of Choc City Boss, Audu Maikori

Following the #FreeAudu outrage on social media after news made rounds that Choc City boss, Audu Maikori was arrested by the police, a police source has now confirmed the arrest, Vanguard is reporting.

According to the police source, Maikori was whisked away in relation to false information about the Southern Kaduna killings he erroneously reported and apologised for, adding that the arrest was after carried out following petitions from the general public that he threatened peace in Kaduna. However, this police source refused to reveal which department is handling the Maikori investigation.

“Do you know the number of persons, particularly the youths that follow the social media. Imagine sending fake information about killings of one group in a situation of crisis which did not exist. Are you trying to ignite more killings or bloodshed among people who have lived together for years or what?” a senior police officer told Vanguard.

Recall that the drama started early February, after the business mogul shared the news of the alleged killing of 5 students of the College of Education, Gidan-Waya, Kaduna by Fulani herdsmen. He was attacked on social media and later accused the Kaduna State Government of witch-hunting. Plus Maikori also challenged the rejoinder from the college which said none of their students was killed.

But Audu Maikori returned days later to publish a retraction.

Now, he is being investigated and the police source says it is just routine.

“Any way there is no cause for worry. Investigations will clear the air about the allegations against him. The police will not just arrest people without a reason,” the police source said.
