“WE WILL SHOW YOU WE ARE FROM NIGERIA” -IHEANACHO TELLS ARGENTINA
Nigeria will do battle with Argentina at the ongoing FIFA World Cup on Tuesday evening, but Kelechi Iheanacho fancies the Super Eagles chances of making it to the knock out round.
Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli have to lift the morale of his players in the wake of their humiliating defeat to Croatia, which has left the South Americans on the brink of elimination from the World Cup. This is the fifth time Nigeria and Argentina have been drawn together in the same World Cup group and they are considered as familiar opponents. Apart from ‘La Albiceleste’ being familiar opponents, Iheanacho played on the same Manchester City team as goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Nicolás Otamendi and Sergio Aguero before transferring to Leicester City in the summer of 2017.
”They are a strong team as you know, we have played against them and we won, they wanted us to beat Iceland so that they come at us.” ”It is going to be a difficult game for them, we have to fight together and do everything possible to beat them in that game despite they have good players and are a quality side. We need to show them we are from Nigeria.” The Leicester City forward said.
The Super Eagles have landed in Saint Petersburg on Sunday evening and will resume training for the match against the South Americans. After losing to Croatia, the two-time winners must beat Nigeria to have any chance of reaching the last 16. A win for the Super Eagles, though, will ensure their passage into the knockout rounds, and though Leicester City forward Iheanacho is a fan of Lionel Messi, he will be happy if the five-time Ballon d’Or winner fails to make an impact.
“I like Messi but against us I hope he stays quiet,” he added.
